A peaceful place to unwind, on two legs or four

At Domaine de Mesqueau, cars stay in the car parks and the paths belong to people on foot. For a dog, it is an ideal setting: space, greenery, peace and quiet, and the nearest beaches 6 km away, about 10 minutes by car, for longer walks.

One dog only, up to 30 kg, is allowed per rental or pitch for a fee, and must be declared when booking. Category 1 and 2 dogs (under French law), cats and exotic pets are not accepted.

A dog must never be left alone in the rental. If you are going somewhere dogs are not allowed, arrange for someone to look after it.

Beaches and dogs

Beaches: mind the summer rules

As a general rule in Finistère, dogs are not allowed on the beaches from 1 June to 30 September inclusive. Local by-laws may set specific rules. In Carantec, the town hall states a ban from 1 May to 30 September, day and night.

For the rest of the year, most beaches are open to dogs again. In all cases, follow the signs at the entrance to each beach, which take precedence.

Coastal path, Monts d’Arrée and islands

The GR34 coastal path follows the Plougasnou coastline about ten minutes from the Domaine: an ideal playground all year round, keeping your dog close on exposed sections. Inland, the Monts d’Arrée offer long walks across the moors, with your dog on a lead to protect wildlife.

At low tide, you can walk to Île Callot from Carantec: check the tide times before you set off. Ferries to Île de Batz also take dogs.

  • Short walk: Pointe de Primel, 10 minutes away
  • Big day out: Monts d’Arrée, 45 minutes away
  • At low tide: Île Callot from Carantec
